Gabriel Atokple Wins Council of State Election by 24 Votes – Volta Region

The Council of State election was held on February 11, 2025, where 36 delegates voted overwhelmingly for Mr. Gabriel Kwabla Tanko Kwamigah Atokple, who secured 24 votes.

13 candidates were vying for the Council of State position in the Volta region. The election took place at Ola Senior High.

Addressing the media after his significant victory, Mr. Gabriel Kwabla Atokple expressed his gratitude to the delegates for their support.

Mr. Atokple stated that his victory belongs to the people of the Volta Region and pledged to fulfill his campaign promises.

He emphasized that his representation as a member of the Council of State for the region would be a credible one, aimed at making the region more autonomous.

Mr. Atokple further noted that the Volta Region controls 60% of Ghana’s resources, and by partnering with donors, he hopes to create jobs for the youth, empower women, and foster growth in the communities.

He assured the people of the region that he would be available and accessible to them.

He also condemned political tactics where leaders form inner circles after winning elections, neglecting the electorate.

Mr. Atokple called on his fellow aspirants to work with him, acknowledging that their collective experience would help him fulfill his campaign promises. “I wish to tap into your wisdom because many of you are very experienced,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. David Kofi Woaku expressed disagreement with the election process, alleging that money was used to influence the assembly members. He said he would take the necessary action by reporting the issue to national executives.

Dr. Woaku emphasized that the Council of State is a platform for individuals who can contribute reasonable ideas.
