Locating Volta Region in the NDC Manifesto – Okudzeto Ablakwa
During the National Democratic Congress (NDC) media engagement on the 2nd of September 2024, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, outlined the plans the next NDC government has for the people in the Volta Region, as detailed in their manifesto.
1. The next NDC government will upgrade the Ho Airport into a training hub and establish certified maintenance repairs and overhaul systems.
2. Revive abandoned ranches, farms, and meat factories with particular attention to the Aveyime rice farm and Adidome facilities.
3. Construct a modern market in Aflao.
4. Support fish industry productivity by constructing a modern inland fish terminal or market at Kpando Torkor.
5. Establish modern fish harbor or landing sites and market complexes with smoking, processing, and storage facilities in towns such as Aflao and Sogakope.
6. Rehabilite various irrigation projects including the ones in Wli, Kpli, Dekpor, Weta, and Afife.
7. Revitalize the Juapong Textile Factory.
8. Construct, rehabilitate, and expand water supply systems to guarantee sustainable and equitable access to clean and safe water in Ho and it’s surrounding communities, the Sogakope Trans – Boundary Water System, the Ho, Kpeve, and Hohoe Water facilities.
9. Partner with the private sector to develop and operate the Port of Keta in the Volta region to facilitate economic opportunities in the Volta, Oti, Northern, and parts of Savannah Regions.
10. The Eastern Corridor Road from Tema through Asikuma to Hohoe and beyond will be constructed.
11. Construct the following inter-regional roads: Keta – Denu – Ho- Have – Kpando – Worawora – Dambai.
12. Construct the Asikuma – Anum – Dzemeni Roads.
13. Conduct feasibility studies to explore the provision of bypasses at Hohoe and Kpando to encourage transit trade.
14. Facilitate investments by the Minerals Commission in natural salt production at Keta to expand capacity and also find markets for the product in Nigeria and other countries.
15. Facilitate the construction of trauma centers, clinics, rest stops, and other social amenities along the Accra – Aflao and Tema – Afienya – Ho corridors.
16. Carry out a nonaeronautical estate business development of the airport in the Region with the full participation of the private sector under an Airport City Precinct Development Scheme.
17. Establish a regional digital center modeled after the Accra Digital Center.
18. Establish farmer service centers in all districts.
19. Set up an Agro-Industrial Zone in the Region.
20. Establish a Cocoa processing plant in the Region.
21. Expand the Ho Teaching Hospital to provide specialist services.
22. Establish a quaternary hospital in the Volta region to attract medical tourism.
23. Dredging of the Volta Lake and other river bodies to prevent future flooding and also enhance the fishing industry.
24. Pay full compensation to the Akosombo and Kpong Dams spillage victims.
25. Establish one zonal Public Laboratory in the Volta region and upgrade the four existing zonal
laboratories.
26. Complete the establishment of additional campuses for the University of Health and Allied
Sciences in Keta and Battor.
27. Introduce specialized Artificial Intelligence labs in selected secondary schools across the regions with Volta Region inclusive.
28. Continue the coastal sea defense project to protect our coastline.
