According to the Regional Fire Commander, DCFO, Mr. Joy Ameyibor, there has been a significant increase in fire outbreaks, affecting both homes and businesses.
Mr. Joy Ameyibor, the District Chief Fire Officer (DCFO), stated that domestic fires remain the most common cause of fire incidents across the nation.
He urged the public to ensure they hire qualified electricians when carrying out electrical wiring in their homes and shops to prevent potential hazards.
Additionally, Mr. Ameyibor advised the public to exercise caution when handling gas appliances and to take proper care in maintaining them to avoid fire risks.
There are laws in place concerning the setting of bushfires. If you set a fire that causes damage to property, you could face arrest and imprisonment for several years. Additionally, you may be required to compensate for the destroyed property or pay a fine, Mr. Ameyibor.
