DVLA Ho Registered 135 Vehicles in Junuary 2025 – Robert Aklamanu
Mr. Robert Aklamanu, the Regional Director of the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has announced that as of January 2025, the institution has registered 135 vehicles.
The DVLA operates branches nationwide to ensure the smooth and efficient licensing of vehicles and drivers. This service has been extended to districts, with each assigned a unique prefix, as shared by Mr. Aklamanu.
He also informed the public that all registered vehicles for 2025 will bear a suffix of “25,” signifying the year of registration.
Mr. Aklamanu pointed out that the number of cars and motorcycles registered in January 2025 is lower compared to January 2024. He noted that in January 2024, the DVLA registered 200 cars and motorcycles, while as of January 14, 2025, 28 cars, 86 motorcycles, and 21 tricycles (locally known as “Mahama Can Do”) had been registered. He expressed optimism that the number of registrations will increase as the year progresses.
Addressing the rise in motorbikes and tricycles for commercial purposes, Mr. Aklamanu cautioned motorbike owners that it is illegal to operate these vehicles for commercial transport without proper licensing. He also highlighted concerns that many riders are unlicensed and underage.
He advised motorbike owners to ensure their riders are licensed and at least 18 years old. He emphasized that this would improve road safety and encourage young people to focus on their education rather than seeking quick income through illegal commercial activities.
In 2024, the DVLA conducted a licensing drive at Ho Lorry Park, and Mr. Aklamanu confirmed that similar efforts will continue in 2025.
Looking ahead, the DVLA plans to intensify public education throughout the year, encouraging vehicle owners to register their vehicles and obtain driving licenses. This will be done through radio broadcasts and community outreach programs.
Mr. Aklamanu also revealed that the DVLA and the Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) will soon launch joint inspections to check for valid licenses, roadworthiness, and insurance compliance. He reminded motorbike and tricycle owners to renew their licenses annually to avoid penalties.
Finally, Mr. Aklamanu urged all road users to exercise caution and responsibility while using the roads.
