Ho GPRTU Branch 2 Swore in New Executives Amidst Chaos

The National Executive Council of GPRTU has officially inducted Dickson Dogbatse as Chairman, Attitoe Lawrence as Vice Chairman, Godwin Tay as Secretary, Tisuafa Christian as 1st Trustee, and Wisdom Kporvi as 2nd Trustee into the executive team of the Ho Branch 2.

In an interview with Mr. Rolex Mixeso, a member of the National Executive, he shared the following remarks:

We are here today to swear in the newly elected executives of the Ho GPRTU.

The former executives had held their positions for 12 years, despite the organization’s regulations, which mandate that elections be held every 4 years.

Following the recent election, the outgoing executives were expected to vacate their posts, but they insisted on remaining in office.

This caused some confusion, prompting the intervention of the police to restore order.

Speaking with the newly elected vice chairman, Mr. Lawrence Akito, popularly known as Awilo after they swore him into office.

“We were elected over two years ago. What you are witnessing here today is simply a formality by the National Executive Council.”

“The former executives have been dismissed from the union and have no legal grounds to challenge the GPRTU.”

Background of the Story

The former executives, led by Chairman Michael Sonkro, have refused to vacate their positions for over two years, despite the election of new leadership.

The situation escalated earlier today when a team sent by the NEC to remove the old executives from office clashed with several individuals, including former 2nd Trustee Felix Kpor, who attempted to block their access to the offices.

The confrontation quickly turned chaotic, prompting the intervention of police officers.

The parties involved are now in discussions with the Volta Regional Police Command to find a peaceful resolution to the dispute.
