Two-Day Workshop for Journalists Held at African Hill Resort in Volta and Oti Regions
The workshop organized under the USAID/Ghana Performance Accountability Activity (PAA) was themed “Strengthening Media-Civil Society Partnership for Effective Public Service Delivery Advocacy.”
28 Journalists from the Volta and Oti regions participated in the workshop. Participants discussed the crucial role of the media in amplifying civil society voices to advocate for quality and Accountable local Public services, focusing on key sectors such as education, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, fisheries, and agriculture.
The workshop also addressed significant knowledge gaps that limit media practitioners’ ability to effectively report on local Public services delivery and local governance issues and forged stronger connections between media practitioners and CSOs dedicated to advocating for improved local services.
Linda Ofori-Kwafo, chief of the Party for Performance Accountability Activity (PAA) emphasized the importance of media championing accountability, emphasizing that ” an informed media is essential for promoting accountability in public service delivery.
She added that we are laying a strong foundation for sustainable and accountable governance at the district and community levels by bridging the gap between journalists and civil society.
The training featured a blend of theoretical insight and practical exercises, including interactive sessions, exploring gender-sensitive reporting strategies, and developing effective partnerships with CSOs.
PAA’s CSO Partners in the Volta and Oti regions, including Global Action for Women Empowerment (GLOWA) Africa Disability Institute (ADI) Rural Health Organization (ROHEO), and representatives from Democracy International, the regional coordinating council participated in the training.
PAA will conduct additional workshops to continue building media capacity for local Public Service advocacy and will train 140 media practitioners selected from 70 local districts spread across the 10 Regions of Ghana.
