NDC Youths Safeguard Fertilizers Hoarded at Divine Bosson’s Residence
Some NDC youth supporters and citizens gather at the MCE’s (Hon. Divine Bosson) residence to safeguard fertilizers, weed killers, and nasal sprayers ahead of President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration on January 7.
Speaking with Theophilus Adzanku, a member of the NDC and former assembly member of Ziavi, he explained that the NDC youths and citizens gathered at the residence of the MCE, Divine Bosson, to ensure that the items kept in his house were not relocated.
He further stated that the residence allocated for MCEs is currently being used as a warehouse, as the current MCE, Divine Bosson, resides at his private home in Dave.
According to him, the official residence, provided by the government for MCEs, is being utilized to store various items, including campaign materials for the National Patriotic Party (NPP) and government resources such as those under the “Planting for Food and Jobs” program.
These include fertilizers, nasal sprayers, Wellington boots, weed killers, and cutlasses.
Additionally, the warehouse contains items intended to support the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program, such as sewing machines and hair dryers.
Theophilus revealed that there had been several complaints about this situation in the past.
However, since the NDC was not in power at the time, they were unable to take any action. He expressed concerns that with the change in government, the current administration might not distribute the items to their intended recipients.
“We are aware that they have started moving items from the MCE’s house, which he has turned into a warehouse. Considering that we are in the harmattan season, if fertilizers, weed killers, and other farming materials are being relocated, the question remains—where are they being sent?”
“We have decided to safeguard government properties to ensure that the incoming administration has access to these items for the benefit of the citizens.
This is not the first time such incidents will occur. If we can recall, in 2008 during a similar transition of government, government properties were stolen, and offices were burned. We are determined to prevent a repeat of such events.
The electorates have high expectations of the incoming administration. As we move into 2025, the rainy season will soon arrive, and farmers will urgently need these resources.”
“We the citizens of Ghana will protect the government properties so that individuals will not loot them and hoard them in their homes or sell them.”
According to Theophilus, they have informed the police about their actions. “We are not hooligans; we are patriotic citizens who want the best for our country. Our presence was not to fight the MCE or his family. Moreover, they do not reside in the government residence,” he clarified.
He also dismissed media reports suggesting that they were harassing the MCE and his family, emphasizing that their intentions were solely to protect government properties.
He urged citizens to adopt a proactive approach rather than a reactive one in safeguarding government properties.
The former assembly member assured the MCE and the citizens that the NDC youths would not harm him because NDC members are not violent.
Also, they will not make the country ungovernable for the incoming president John Dramani Mahama.
He advised the youth involved in invading and burning government properties to desist from such unwarranted and destructive behaviors.
